PHOENIX – A federal judge in Phoenix sentenced a man to more than three decades in prison for coercing teenage girls into sending him explicit photos of themselves, according to authorities.
Ruben Oswaldo Yeverino Rosales was sentenced to 413 months (more than 34 years) on Tuesday after previously pleading guilty to four counts of producing child pornography and two counts of cyberstalking, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona said in a press release Friday.
The 27-year-old resident of Mexico, who was arrested there in 2019 and extradited to Arizona in May 2020, will face lifetime supervised release after serving his prison time.
Prosecutors say he used social media to convince a 14-year-old Arizona girl into sending hundreds of pornographic images of herself. He used the photos to blackmail her and also sent them to her family and schoolmates.
He also was charged with convincing an 18-year-old Arizona high school senior to take nude photos, which he threatened to post on a pornographic website if she didn’t keeping sending pictures.
Investigators determined that Rosales used social media to prey on girls, mostly minors and some as young as 12, in the U.S. and other countries from 2015 until the time of his arrest. Homeland Security Investigations identified more than 80 victims.
He faced federal charges in five other U.S. districts that were dismissed as part of his plea deal in Arizona.
The Goodyear Police Department worked with Homeland Security Investigations on the case.
