PHOENIX – A fatal crash shut down a ramp at the juncture of two major Valley freeways Monday during the morning commute, authorities said.
The ramp from southbound Interstate 17 to westbound Interstate 10 in Phoenix was closed around 6:10 a.m., the Arizona Department of Transportation said.
The ramp reopened around 11 a.m., ADOT said.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety said the driver of a semitruck died after slamming into a pillar.
Other drivers looked after the 56-year-old man until help arrived, DPS said.
The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
ADOT cameras showed the rear of a big rig blocking the ramp at the “stack” and damaged “crash cushions.”
