PHOENIX — Phoenix police are investigating the death of a 5-year-old boy after a drowning incident Friday afternoon, authorities said.
Phoenix police and fire responded to an apartment complex near 30th Street and Osborn Road around 1:30 p.m. after getting a call about a child drowning, the Phoenix Fire Department said in a press release.
When officials arrived they found a bystander performing CPR on the boy, who had since been pulled from the pool.
Firefighters took over CPR and started life-saving measures.
The boy was transported to a local hospital where he did not survive. It’s unknown how long he was in the water or why he fell in, the release said.
Police originally thought the boy was 7 years old but clarified his age late Friday evening.
The investigation is ongoing.
