PHOENIX – Three people were killed and six others seriously injured in a collision involving a stolen car in Phoenix early Friday, authorities said.

The stolen Toyota Camry was speeding north on 43rd Avenue around 2 a.m. when it collided with a south-facing vehicle that was turning left onto Thunderbird Road, Phoenix Police Sgt. Melissa Soliz said during a press briefing.

“The vehicle that was turning left immediately erupted into flames,” she said. All three occupants of that vehicle died in the collision, she said.

The stolen car had six occupants ranging from teenagers to young adults who were all hospitalized.

The Phoenix Fire Department said a woman in her 30s was in extremely critical condition, while a woman in her 20s and two male teens were in critical condition. Another male teen and a female teen were in stable condition.

Police said the intersection 43rd Avenue and Thunderbird Road would be closed in all directions for several hours while detectives investigate the scene.
