PHOENIX – A federal judge recently sentenced a California man to 10 years in prison for luring a 17-year-old girl into sex work after recruiting her at a Phoenix party, authorities said Thursday.

Jahque Dijion Williams, 21, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Diane J. Humetewa in Phoenix on July 14 after previously pleading guilty to sex trafficking of a minor, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona.

Police found the victim in a Los Angeles hospital on July 23, 2020, after she apparently had been physically assaulted.

She said she met Williams through social media four days earlier.

He invited her to a party in Phoenix and recruited her to become a commercial sex worker in Los Angeles, according to the release.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, the Mesa Police Department, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department and the Los Angeles Police Department.

It was part of a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation called Project Safe Childhood.
