Phoenix police find drugs after arresting man accused of pointing gun at girlfriend, her mom

Jul 20, 2022, 1:00 PM

PHOENIX – Police found a stash of illegal drugs, including fentanyl, in the apartment of a Phoenix man last week after he allegedly pointed a gun at his girlfriend and her mother, authorities said.

The victims told the Phoenix Police Department that Abel Sanchez-Peralta, 28, used a gun to intimidate them at their home near 51st and Southern avenues on July 12, according to court documents.

Officers proceeded to track Sanchez-Peralta to his apartment near 30th Street and Indian School Road. They eventually arrested him near 30th Street and Thomas Road around 2 p.m.

The suspect was in possession of a semiautomatic Ruger handgun when taken into custody, according to the probable cause statement filed in court by the arresting officer.

Sanchez-Peralta is prohibited from possessing a gun because of a previous felony conviction, according to the probable cause statement.

Police obtained and served a search warrant at the suspect’s apartment and found two more guns, body armor and about 8,000 fentanyl pills and 60 pounds of methamphetamine, according to the probable cause statement

It was later learned that one of the guns, a black rifle, was reported stolen from Tempe.

Sanchez-Peralta was booked into jail on multiple felony counts, including prohibited weapons possession and possession of drugs for sale.

A court official set his bail at $50,000.
