PHOENIX — The City of Mesa Housing Authority will open a waitlist for its Section 8 housing assistance for two weeks next month.

The tenant-based housing choice voucher program will have online-only signups in English and Spanish from 10 a.m. on Aug. 17 until 5 p.m. on Aug. 30.

“The Housing Choice Voucher Program has assisted many Mesa residents with rental assistance,” Mary Brandon, Mesa’s community services deputy director, said in a press release. “The Mesa Housing Authority staff is dedicated to making the application process as easy as possible.”

The city will use a lottery system to put 4,000 applications on the waiting list. Those not selected will have the opportunity to apply at another time, according to the city.

Applicants must provide names, birth dates and Social Security numbers, that if possible, to successfully complete the form.

They also must list income sources and total gross income for all family members.

Applicants without a computer, tablet or smartphone can fill out the form at these locations:

• Mesa Public Library, Main Library
64 E. First Street

• Mesa Public Library, Dobson Ranch
2425 S. Dobson Road

• Mesa Public Library, Red Mountain
635 N. Power Road

• MesaCAN
635 E. Broadway Road (Second floor)

• Paz de Cristo
424 W. Broadway Road

• Save the Family
125 E. University Drive

The city’s housing authority will also have a kiosk available at its headquarters from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.

Paper applications will be available for those who need special assistance.

The voucher program is available to families based on their income and generally amounts to no more than 30% of their adjusted monthly income on rent, depending on the cost of the unit selected.

Contact the City of Mesa Housing Authority at 480-644-3536 with any questions.

We want to hear from you.
