PHOENIX — An investigation was underway into an officer-involved shooting in Chandler early Sunday that left a sexual assault suspect dead, authorities said.
The incident happened sometime before 9 a.m. at an apartment complex near Frye Road and 95th Street, the Chandler Police Department said in a press release.
Authorities said the suspect, identified as 44-year-old Tyson W. Cobb, committed a home invasion sexual assault and was armed with a knife.
Cobb was a resident at the apartment complex where the incident took place and was a stranger to the victim, Chandler police said.
Police shot Cobb after he allegedly confronted officers with the knife, authorities said.
Cobb was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
No officers were injured during the shooting.
It was the second officer-involved shooting by Chandler police and 34th overall by Valley law enforcement in 2022, according to KTAR News research.
