PHOENIX – A man was seriously injured after somebody shot at the car he was in early Thursday in Phoenix’s Estrella Village neighborhood, authorities said.

Officers responded to a call in the area of 99th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road around 3 a.m. and found the victim with a gunshot wound, according to a Phoenix Police Department press release.

They also located two men hiding nearby who said they were with the victim when the shooting occurred.

The man, who is in his early 20s, was taken to a hospital in extremely critical condition.

Detectives determined that the unknown suspect or suspects fired multiple shots at the car and fled before officers arrived, police said.
