Glendale man charged with transporting 14 migrants near Arizona-Mexico border

PHOENIX — A Glendale man was charged after being accused of transporting 14 migrants near the Arizona-Mexico border, authorities said Thursday.
Saif Ali Al Najafi, 25, was arrested Friday after the U-Haul box truck he was driving near Naco was stopped by Border Patrol agents, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona.
Agents located a migrant in the front passenger seat before finding 13 more, including two children, in the box of the truck.
A migrant in the box of the truck said Najafi opened the cargo door for the group to enter, closed it, then locked it behind them, according to the release.
Najafi could spend up to 20 years in prison and pay a $250,000 fine if convicted.
Border Patrol is conducting the investigation in this case.
