PHOENIX — This month, Broadway musical and Disney fans alike will get the chance to see “The Lion King” at ASU Gammage in Tempe.

Slated to run starting Tuesday through July 31, with showings playing at different times in the day, the story of a young lion cub who escapes after feeling responsible for the death of his father will be brought to life through a live performance, according to a press release.

It was originally scheduled for 2020 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since the musical began performing on the road 20 years ago, it has won six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and features music from artists like Elton John and Tim Rice.

The touring production uses 18 trucks, 14 of which are 53-foot long semi-trailers, to move puppets, set pieces and other materials from city to city, according to the release.

Tickets can be purchased online.
