PHOENIX — People who love the Arizona State Fair and all it has to offer, from rides and performances to the crazy food, can now mark their calendars for the 2022 event.

The Arizona State Fair will run from Sept. 23 until Oct. 30 and be open Thursdays through Sundays.

While the fair will not operate on Wednesdays as it has done in years past, the event will begin a week earlier.

“Usually that’s the days that the crowd tends to come,” Biranda Martinez, marketing director of the fair, told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Thursday.

Martinez added the fair hopes to bring more entertainment to guests by opening a week earlier.

Among the entertainment fairgoers can look forward to are monster trucks, figure-eight racing, rodeo and a bull-riding show, which are all included with admission.

“We are ready to bring that entertainment to families,” Martinez said.

People can buy their tickets on the fair’s website, as well as pre-book parking. Martinez recommends fairgoers pre-book parking quickly as those reservations are limited.

What food items visitors may see at the fair has not been revealed as the event is still a couple of months away, but Martinez said it won’t disappoint in providing options for those looking for traditional food as well as enthusiasts who are daring enough to try the more outrageous items.

“Every year our food vendors, our chefs, are working to bring in the newest, the craziest, the yummiest,” Martinez said. “I can assure you it’s going to be … crazy, it’s going to be yummy but you can find your traditional food as well.”

Martinez added there will also be various competitions for people to showcase their talents, such as in photography or sculpture, along with community stages.

The Arizona State Fair returned last year in a big way after being limited to drive-through food only in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Almost 1.6 million visitors passed through the Arizona State Fair gates last year, breaking the previous record of 1.3 million fairgoers that was set in 2019.
