Watch: Jan. 6 panel to hear of Trump pressure on Justice Department

Jun 23, 2022, 11:50 AM

The Jan. 6 House committee will hear Thursday from former Justice Department officials who withstood a relentless pressure campaign from Donald Trump over the 2020 presidential election results.

The session is set to begin at noon Arizona time.

It’s the fifth public hearing of the month on the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

Jeffrey Rosen, acting attorney general during the assault, is scheduled to testify.

In a written statement prepared for the committee and obtained by The Associated Press, Rosen said the department wasn’t presented with any evidence of fraud that could have affected the outcome of the election.

Based on that, the DOJ did not participate in any Trump campaign efforts to overturn the results, the statement said.

The committee last week presented videotaped depositions of former Attorney General William Barr, who castigated Trump’s fraud claims as “bogus” and “idiotic” and resigned after failing to convince the president of that.

Previous witnesses have included Arizona House Speaker Rusty Bowers, who told the panel Tuesday of calls from Trump allies trying to pressure him to support decertifying the state’s election results.

The Republican from Mesa said during his appearance he “didn’t want to be used as a pawn” in the scheme and that he “will not play with laws I swore allegiance to.”
