PHOENIX —  In an effort to better serve residents in the East Valley, a Head Start and career services office opened Monday in Mesa, officials said.

The Human Services Division East Valley Center located at Southern Avenue and Alma School Road is offering early education and workforce development services at no cost to qualifying individuals, Maricopa County said in a press release.

The program provides job seekers of all career stages and ages access to computers to search for jobs and to create their resumes, while also offering services provided by on-site career specialists that aid with adult career guidance services, training courses and resume assistance.

“Housing workforce development and early education services under one roof is more convenient for residents and more cost-efficient for taxpayers,” Chairman Bill Gates, District 3, said in the release.

“The conversations that happen here will lead to more stability, more financial freedom and a better quality of life for the individuals and families who choose to connect with us.”

The facility contains a large gathering space that will be the site of job fairs and in some cases, on-site interviews and job offers.

Also available to pregnant women and families with children ages 0 to 5 — through the Early Head Start and Head Start programs — are full-day childcare, snacks, meals and health screenings and immunizations performed by on-site registered nurses.

“Two of the most important factors in communities with a high quality of life are access to stable, good-paying jobs and access to quality education,” Supervisor Tom Galvin, District 2, said.

“This facility brings both to East Valley families and will do so for years to come.”
