PHOENIX — A former Gilbert teacher was arrested on Thursday following an investigation into an alleged inappropriate relationship with a student, authorities said.
Aaron Dunton, 35, was booked into Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office on four counts of aggravated assault, one count of tampering with a witness and two counts of contributing to delinquency and dependency, the Gilbert Police Department said in a press release.
An investigation began April 14 after an accusation that Dunton, when teaching at Higley High School, was engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a 14-year-old student, authorities said.
Dunton resigned from the school after the discovery of the alleged relationship and an email with basic details was sent to parents by the district, Gilbert police said.
The investigation also revealed another victim, who made accusations against Dunton for alleged incidents that occurred at Power Ranch Elementary School in 2019, authorities said.
The second victim was 11 years old at the time and Dunton was their teacher, authorities said.
Gilbert police are looking to identify additional potential victims or witnesses and anybody with pertinent information is asked to call 480-503-6500.
