PHOENIX — Three organizations are partnering to provide nearly 300,000 meals through the end of the year to people facing food insecurity in Phoenix.

Meal kit company HelloFresh is teaming up with St. Mary’s Food Bank and Total Quality Logistics for its Meals With Meaning program, according to a press release.

Volunteers with St. Mary’s Food Bank pack the meal kits that are delivered to the homes of families and seniors through the nonprofit’s Commodity Supplemental Food Program. Each consists of a step-by-step recipe and all the ingredients needed to make the dish that comes from HelloFresh’s distribution center in Phoenix.

“Combating hunger and assisting those facing food insecurity is a responsibility we take seriously at HelloFresh so we are looking forward to bringing our Meals with Meaning program to the Phoenix community,” Uwe Voss, CEO of HelloFresh U.S., said in the release.

“We are so thankful to St. Mary’s Food Bank and Total Quality Logistics for partnering with us so that families in need have access to fresh and healthy meals.”

Meal options include squash and bean pasta with creamy sauce, BBQ chicken with mashed potatoes and carrots, as well as cheesy chicken skillet with caramelized onions.

“With skyrocketing inflation hitting just as several COVID-related government programs are ending, we’ve seen a concerning increase in the number of families and seniors who are turning to the food bank for help,” St. Mary’s President and CEO Tom Kertis said in the release.

“These incredible meal kits provided by HelloFresh are very much appreciated and will help us get the food directly to the most vulnerable clients in our community.”

Total Quality Logistics is handling the transportation costs of the meal kits, according to the release.

The program operates in four other U.S. cities and has delivered nearly three million meals since launching in 2020 as a response to food insecurity that was intensified by the COVID-19 pandemic, HelloFresh said.
