Former Vice President Mike Pence to visit Arizona at US-Mexico border next week

Jun 11, 2022, 7:15 AM

PHOENIX — Former Vice President Mike Pence will visit the U.S.-Mexico border with Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey next week, officials said.

The visit on Monday, and public policy address in Phoenix in the afternoon, will focus on border security issues, Ducey’s office said in a press release.

The former congressman and Indiana governor is visiting Arizona as he considers a run for the Republican nomination for president in 2024.

Pence has been an outspoken critic of President Joe Biden and his successor’s job handling the southern border, telling Vice President Kamala Harris in a tweet last summer that it was time to deal with the “Biden border crisis.”

Ducey’s office, noting more fentanyl was seized in southern Arizona last year than in the previous two years combined, said Pence is visiting a state at the “forefront of national security and humanitarian crisis at the border.”

Pence visited the state multiple times throughout his time as vice president, his last just four days before Election Day in 2020 as the Trump administration battled for Arizona that ultimately went to Biden.
