PHOENIX – Police in Phoenix are searching for a suspect in the fatal shooting of a man Wednesday night.

The Phoenix Police Department said the victim was shot near Interstate 17 and Bell Road around 8:30 p.m. He managed to walk to a restaurant, where he collapsed outside.

Police found the man, in his early 30s, on the ground. He died at a hospital.

His name has not been made public.

Witnesses told officers they saw a man in his late 20s leaving the area on foot after the shooting.

Police conducted ground and air searches but were unable to find the suspect.

The search caused the shutdown of Bell Road in both directions between the freeway and 29th Avenue, still in place Thursday morning.

The investigation is ongoing. Police ask that anyone with information about the case call them at 602-262-6151, Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO for Spanish language.
