Woman walking on Phoenix street killed in hit-and-run crash

PHOENIX – Police are investigating after a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run collision on a Phoenix street Tuesday morning, authorities said.
Stephanie Spooner, 37, was walking in the roadway near 51st Avenue and Camelback Road when she was struck by a dark-colored SUV, the Phoenix Police Department said in a press release.
She was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died from her injuries, police said.
The SUV left the scene before authorities arrived.
The investigation, which began shortly after the 4:30 a.m. crash, shut down 51st Avenue from Campbell Avenue to Camelback Road.
