PHOENIX – Police are investigating after a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run collision on a Phoenix street Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Stephanie Spooner, 37, was walking in the roadway near 51st Avenue and Camelback Road when she was struck by a dark-colored SUV, the Phoenix Police Department said in a press release.

She was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died from her injuries, police said.

The SUV left the scene before authorities arrived.

The investigation, which began shortly after the 4:30 a.m. crash, shut down 51st Avenue from Campbell Avenue to Camelback Road.

Anybody with information about the case was asked to call the Phoenix Police Department at 602-262-6151 or, to remain anonymous, Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS (948-6377) or 480-TESTIGO (837-8446) for Spanish.

We want to hear from you.
