Sadly, murders happen so often only the most unusual make the headlines anymore. But these two deserve some attention and the families deserve justice. First:

“This homicide occurred on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020, at around 7:20 in the evening.”

Phoenix Police Sgt. Steve Reaume says 16-year-old Jose Gabriel Rodriguez was walking across the parking lot of his apartment complex when a dark-colored sedan approached and the passenger shot the teen multiple times.

“He started to run or walk away after the shots were fired and then he fell down and collapsed.”

His mother heard the shots, ran to the parking lot and found her son.

“We don’t have any information that he was involved in anything nefarious,” Reaume says. “He seemed like a pretty good kid and, at this time, we don’t have any information on what a motive would be.”

Next, on Monday, Nov. 9, 2020, someone gunned down a young pregnant woman.

“The victim, Chardae Amari Todd, who was 22 years old at the time and also 4 months pregnant, was shot in the area of 40th Avenue and Buckeye Road,” Reaume says.

It happened at about 10 p.m.

“She was just found on the street, shot, and later died from her injuries. It’s very sad.”
