California-based Mr. Pickles Sandwich Shop plans 6 metro Phoenix locations

Jun 1, 2022, 9:10 AM | Updated: 9:16 am

PHOENIX – Mr. Pickles Sandwich Shop is bringing a taste of California to the metro Phoenix market.

The Bay Area-based chain is planning to open six locations across the Valley, the first outside California, in the next year-plus.

The first two shops are set to open in August in Scottsdale, one at Thompson Parkway and Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard and the other at Scottsdale Road and Shea Boulevard.

Two locations are scheduled to debut in September, in Surprise at Bell Road and Grand Avenue and in Chandler at Dobson and Ray roads.

West Phoenix is next, with a Mr. Pickles coming to 59th Avenue and Baseline Road in October.

The sixth shop is slated to open in the third quarter of 2023 at the Vineyard Towne Center, a shopping plaza under construction at Gantzel and Combs roads in Queen Creek.

Franchisee Mike Nelson told Phoenix Business Journal this is just the first wave of expansion, and he can foresee up to 70 Mr. Pickles locations across Arizona.

The shops serves up a variety of hot and cold sandwiches, plus salads and wraps and sides (including, of course, whole dill pickles).

Popular items include the Big Jake (turkey, cream cheese and avocado), the Mr. Pickle (chicken breast, bacon, Monterey Jack cheese and avocado) and the Santa Maria tri-tip with barbecue sauce.

Each sandwich comes with a free chocolate chip cookie.
