PHOENIX – A man trying to maneuver his car around a Phoenix fire truck on the move was killed in a crash Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
William Dodd, 57, died at a hospital after the collision near 35th and Campbell avenues, the Phoenix Police Department said in an email.
Police said a Phoenix Fire Department truck was en route to an emergency around 4:15 p.m., lights and sirens operating, and heading south on 35th Avenue, as was Dodd in his sedan.
Dodd steered his car to the right to get around the truck. Instead, the vehicles collided, causing the car to veer off course and smash into a tree.
Firefighters applied life-saving measures to Dodd until he reached the hospital.
No one else was seriously injured, police said.
