2 Arizona high school students to compete in National Musical Theatre Awards

PHOENIX — Two Arizona high school students are headed to Broadway later this month to compete in the National Musical Theatre Awards.
Tre Moore from ASU Prep Polytech High School and Haley Raffaele from Maricopa High School were named Best Lead Male and Best Lead Female, respectively, in the ASU Gammage High School Musical Theatre Awards on Saturday, according to a press release.
The two will make their Broadway debut at the Minskoff Theatre and compete against 90 other students from across the country in the 13th annual Jimmy Awards.
In addition to performing in the awards ceremony, which will take place on June 27, Moore and Raffaele will spend a week in the Big Apple participating in master classes and receiving training and preparation with Broadway coaches and accomplished professionals, according to the release.

The National High School Musical Theatre Awards, established in 2009, in the past has offered educational scholarships to those that impress the panel of judges and are chosen as the best performance by an actor and actress.
Hundreds of students participated in the event over the weekend at ASU Gammage, according to the release, which included dozens of on-stage performances.
Meanwhile, Chandler High School’s production of “Legally Blonde” was awarded Best Musical at the event.
