PHOENIX — Police were investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a man dead in Phoenix on Sunday, authorities said.

Officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute near 24th Street and Cactus Road just before 7 p.m., the Phoenix Police Department said in a press release.

While responding, they learned a 52-year-old man involved in the dispute had shot a firearm multiple times inside and outside of the residence.

When officers arrived, the man, who has not been identified, was standing outside with the gun in his hand, police said.

Officers told the suspect to drop the weapon, but he pointed it toward them, resulting in the officer-involved shooting, police said.

Life saving measures were performed but the suspect died at the scene from his injuries.

No officers or community members were injured.

The investigation was ongoing.

No additional information was made available.

It was the 12th shooting of the year by Phoenix police and 24th overall by law enforcement in the Valley, according to KTAR News 92.3 FM research.
