Police seek suspects in fatal shooting, jewelry smash-and-grab in Phoenix from 2020

May 30, 2022, 7:15 AM

It was almost 3 a.m. on June 20, 2020, at a night club near 38th Street and University Drive in southeast Phoenix. Isabel Leal, a 29-year-old mother of four, was there with her boyfriend.

A fight started inside but moved into the parking lot, where a shooting took place. Leal was fatally wounded.

“We don’t think she was actively involved in the fight,” Phoenix Police Sgt. Steve Reaume. “She may have been an unintended target.”

The suspect was able to get away before officers arrived and no one was able to provide a vehicle description.

Next, this robber obviously didn’t care about attracting attention.

Reaume described the hoodie he was wearing: “It’s a very flamboyant pink, bright, blue hoodie that almost looks like overalls printed on the front of it. I’ve never seen one like it. It’s very unique.”

His target was the SuperPawn at 66th Avenue and Indian School. It was Wednesday, May 6, 2020, at 2 p.m.

“This was a normal business day,” Reaume said. “And the suspect walks in and starts smashing the display cases with a hammer.”

He got away with some jewelry. The suspect was also wearing a brightly colored bandana over most of his face, but police are hoping someone will recognize his eyes or his clothing.
