PHOENIX — The developers behind the revitalization of Park Central in Phoenix announced Monday that a life sciences facility will be part of the mixed-use project.

“We are seeing central and downtown Phoenix emerge as one of the true life sciences hubs in the western United States,” Sharon Harper, chairman and CEO of Plaza Companies, co-owner and co-developer of Park Central, said in a press release.

“This new life sciences hub will create synergies with the many healthcare-related entities already at Park Central and nearby, and will be a tremendous opportunity for innovative companies to find an ideal location.”

The developer said that the conceptual design for the 80,000-square-foot facility, which will be located in the largest of the original buildings at Park Central near 3rd Avenue and Osborn Road, can be divisible into separate laboratories ranging from 5,000 to 50,000 square feet.

It will also have the capacity for 40 lab modules and 28 support lab modules, the developer said, with the facility’s high ceilings allowing life science companies to use advanced air conditioning systems and exhaust penetrations.

The life sciences facility joins Creighton University’s new $100 million Health Sciences Campus, Dignity Health’s headquarters, as well as restaurants and other companies, that will be housed in what was the city’s first official large-scale shopping mall when it opened in 1957.

More information can be found on Park Central’s website.
