PHOENIX — Third graders at an Avondale elementary school were told Thursday they would be going to college with in-state tuition fully covered.

The Rosztoczy Foundation will provide more than 80 students from the Michael Andersen School with a full-ride scholarship, removing any obstacles that could otherwise come into play, the Avondale Elementary School District said in a press release.

It marks the second time a class of students from the West Valley school district received the College Promise grant, the release said.

“The opportunity to know in third grade that college is paid for through the Rosztoczy Foundation, removes any obstacle to reaching that goal … This opportunity provides another layer of reach that further strengthens, not just the children in the families, it impacts our entire system,” AESD Superintendent Betsy Hargrove said in the release.

“One of the best parts of this experience is that it changes the conversation from ‘are you going to college’ to ‘where are you going to college’ from day one.”

The foundation has been providing scholarships since 2005, including the Hungarian Scholarship Program and the College Promise.
