PHOENIX — A 3-year-old boy was taken to the hospital on Wednesday in critical condition after being pulled from a backyard pool in Phoenix, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 3 p.m. at a residence near 52nd Street and Thunderbird Road, the Phoenix Fire Department said in a press release.

Firefighters arrived and found family members doing CPR on the child, who had reportedly been found unresponsive and face down in the pool, authorities said.

Advanced life support measures were conducted throughout the ambulance transport to the hospital, authorities said.
