PHOENIX — A retail center is coming to the Verrado master-planned community in Buckeye, the developers announced Tuesday.

Verrado Marketplace will be located on the northeast corner of Verrado Way and Interstate 10, with a groundbreaking for the project expected next year after approvals from the city.

Among the amenities expected to be part of the 500,000-square-foot retail center are a premier grocery store, apparel and home decor stores, a department store, movie theatre and several new specialty shops, restaurants and services, according to a press release.

The project, which will be similar to other shopping centers like Tempe Marketplace and Desert Ridge Marketplace, is also set to have large public outdoor spaces to serve as a gathering spot for not only the master-planned community but surrounding communities as well.

The retail center will complement the existing commercial services in place on the west side of the 8,800 acre community, according to the release.

Vestar, the largest privately-held shopping center developer in the western United States, is partnering with Verrado developer DMB Associates on the project, according to the release.

“For over 30 years, we have developed successful retail environments that become important gathering spots and economic hubs for their community, and Verrado Marketplace will be no different,” David Larcher, CEO of Vestar, said in the release.

“We are excited to be partnering with a visionary company like DMB and especially to be developing at the front door of the Verrado community.”
