PHOENIX — Heston Silbert, director of the Arizona Department of Public Safety, was hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash on a Valley freeway Monday evening, authorities said.
Silbert was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening and was later released, DPS said in an email.
The driver of the other vehicle was hospitalized with serious injuries, according to DPS.
The crash happened around 6 p.m. on eastbound Interstate 10 near State Route 143, according to ABC15.
The driver of the other vehicle, a pickup truck, swerved to avoid colliding with congested traffic before losing control of the truck and colliding with Silbert’s vehicle, DPS said.
Silbert attributes the fact that he only sustained minor injuries to using a seatbelt, DPS said.
The driver of the pickup truck was not wearing a seatbelt, DPS said.
Investigators have ruled out impairment, DPS said.
No other information was immediately available.
