PHOENIX – It’s going to be 100 degrees in Phoenix sooner or later, and the heat could happen as soon as Friday for the first time this year, forecasters said.

“There’s a 50% chance of hitting 100 degrees on Friday and Saturday,” Chris Kuhlman, National Weather Service Phoenix bureau meteorologist, told KTAR News 92.3 FM. That is not much past the average century-mark heat debut of May 2.

But it would be the latest date to get there since May 21, 2010.

Temperatures could climb to 101 degrees Saturday before coming back down starting Sunday at 96 degrees.

“Anytime it gets this hot, try to restrict your outdoor activities to morning time,” Kuhlman said.

“If you do have to do anything in the afternoon when it is hot, bring plenty of water with you. Hydrate beforehand, hydrate during and try to seek any shade that might be out there.”

The Valley and 100-degree temperatures have been flirting for a couple of weeks. The high topped out at 99 on April 19 and April 26.

KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Jim Cross contributed to this report.
