PHOENIX — Now is the perfect time to add a four-legged friend to the house as multiple Valley facilities are participating in the nationwide Empty the Shelters event.

The program runs through May 15 and is sponsored by BISSELL Pet Foundation, which is facilitating more than 275 shelters across 40 states to decrease adoption fees to $25 or less per dog or cat.

Eight facilities in metro Phoenix are participating and people can find the shelter closest to them online. Two shelters in Sedona, as well as a facility in Yuma, are also taking part in the promotion.

The shelters are offering different deals for the promotion. Arizona Humane Society’s two Valley locations are waiving adoption fees for the nearly 1,000 pets currently being cared for.

Requirements for adoption may vary at each facility and people are encouraged to contact the shelter directly to learn more about the process.

More than 45 states have participated in the promotion since 2016, according to the website, and just over 83,000 pets have found new homes.

We want to hear from you.
