PHOENIX – One person was killed and another critically injured in a head-on collision early Friday on a Phoenix street.

The crash near Tatum Boulevard and Cactus Road also involved a third vehicle that was only damaged slightly and the driver unharmed, the Phoenix Police Department said in an email.

Police said a black SUV and a black sedan crashed on Cactus Road around 4:20 a.m. The SUV driver, identified as Chad Hunt, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sedan driver, a woman, was taken to the hospital.

Police said initial evaluation of the scene suggested Hunt’s SUV went left of center into traffic going in the opposite direction.

There have been no obvious signs of impairment in any of the drivers, police said.

Cactus Road was restricted between 56th and 52nd streets for the investigation.

No other details were made available.
