PHOENIX — A Silver Alert for an 84-year-old man with cognitive impairment was canceled shortly after it was issued Monday night.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety activated the alert for Robert Frederick Monday at 8 p.m. and deactivated it at 5 a.m. after he was recovered safely Tuesday morning.

A passerby notified police Frederick’s vehicle was just north of the city border after he was last seen at 12:15 p.m. at the LA Fitness near Hayden and Indian Bend roads in Scottsdale.

With assistance from a DPS Ranger helicopter, Frederick was found in a nearby wash with injuries, the Scottsdale Police Department said in a press release.

He was medevac’d to a local hospital and is in stable condition.
