Firefighters in Phoenix use powerful airbag to free man trapped between shipping container, brick wall

Apr 25, 2022, 1:15 PM

PHOENIX – First responders from two fire departments rescued a man who became trapped between a shipping container and a brick wall in Phoenix on Sunday.

The unidentified man fell off a 24-footlong shipping container near 16th Avenue and Hatcher Road in the afternoon, the Phoenix Fire Department said in an email.

He had been walking across the top of the container when he dropped 10 feet and was wedged in tight, upside down, a fire department spokesman said.

A technical rescue team used a heavy-duty airbag to move the container away about a foot away from the wall.

Firefighters were then able to pull him out.

The man was taken to a hospital with injuries that weren’t life-threatening.

The Glendale Fire Department assisted with the rescue.
