PHOENIX — A man accused of beating a dog in Chandler was arrested this week after a video of the incident appeared on an app, authorities said.

John Wyman, 36, was cited for one count of animal cruelty inflicting injury, a class one misdemeanor, the Chandler Police Department said in a press release on Tuesday.

Officers received a call on Monday from a person who saw a video posted by the owner of the dog which allegedly depicted Wyman, who was sitting for the dog, kick and punch the animal, authorities said.

The officer used police databases to identify the owner of the dog, who told police they would be willing to aid in prosecution, authorities said.

Wyman cooperated with police and met with officers at the Chandler Police Department’s downtown precinct, authorities said.
