PHOENIX — It was another record March for travel at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.

A total of 239,160 passengers came through the East Valley airport, making it the busiest month in history.

The previous best month for the airport was in March 2019, when 224,864 people came through the gates.

“Air travelers visiting for Cactus League baseball, golf, hiking and NASCAR are discovering that the Phoenix-Mesa metro area offers so much more,” Mesa Mayor John Giles, chairman of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority, said in a press release.

“Gateway Airport provides an affordable and convenient way to escape winter weather with family and friends.”

The month was also the sixth over the past 10 that resulted in record year-over-year passenger growth.

That includes November, when 147,285 passengers came through the airport and daily records were set.

The days before and after Thanksgiving weekend were the busiest days in Gateway’s history.

Five airlines – Allegiant, WestJet, Swoop, Flair and Sun Country — are operating out of the airport to more than 60 destinations across the U.S. and Canada.

We want to hear from you.
