Teenager standing on Phoenix street hit by truck, dies

PHOENIX – A teenage boy was hit by a truck and killed in Phoenix on Thursday night while he was standing in the street, authorities said.

The Phoenix Police Department said in a press release 17-year-old Juan Diaz was struck by the vehicle near 61st Avenue and McDowell Road around 9:30 p.m.

The pickup truck was heading east on McDowell when it collided with Diaz. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

The driver stayed to answer questions from authorities.

Police said impairment did not appear to be a factor in the collision.

The investigation is ongoing.

No other details were made available.
