PHOENIX – Bystanders pulled an injured driver from a burning vehicle after he crashed into a strip mall building in Glendale on Wednesday night, first responders said.
The car smashed into the back of the mall at 67th Avenue and Bethany Home Road around 9:30 p.m., and ruptured a gas line, the Glendale Fire Department said in an email.
The unidentified driver, the only person injured, was taken to the hospital in unknown condition.
Firefighters went inside the building, checked for anyone trapped and found it empty. They also were able to determine the blaze was limited to that building.
Crews put out the car fire and pulled it from where it was wedged in the strip mall.
First responders from the Phoenix Fire Department helped to shut down the fire.
Southwest Gas was responsible for turning off the damaged line.
