PHOENIX — A Tempe man was sentenced to four years behind bars on Monday for trying to bring fentanyl into the United States from Mexico, authorities said.
Charles King Jr., 49, previously pleaded guilty to the charge of importing fentanyl, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona said in a press release on Tuesday.
Nearly 11 pounds of the illegal drug was found hidden in the drive shaft of his vehicle on Feb. 20, 2020, at the Nogales port of entry, authorities said.
A Customs and Border protection canine alerted officers to the drugs in the vehicle.
King Jr. will also have five years of supervised release when his sentence in prison concludes, authorities said.
