PHOENIX – Rescue technicians successfully removed an injured worker from a trench at a construction site near downtown Phoenix on Tuesday, authorities said.

The man was unable to move and had severe back pain after tripping and falling into the 8-foot trench near Central Avenue and Buckeye Road, the Phoenix Fire Department said in a press release.

After arriving on the scene, firefighters used shoring techniques to prevent the trench from collapsing and trapping the man.

They then got him onto a stretcher and hoisted him out using a ladder truck.

The worker was taken to a hospital for treatment.

No rescuers were injured during the incident.
