PHOENIX – Valley weather can’t seem to pick a lane and stay in it of late. Temperatures will creep toward the century mark this week, but then will head in the opposite direction before too long, forecasters said.

The National Weather Service predicted a jump from Monday’s 88 degrees to a high of 96 degrees Friday.

“It’s just up and down this time of year,” Jared Heil, a meteorologist with the Phoenix weather bureau told KTAR News 92.3 FM. “I wouldn’t be surprised if by some point in the middle of next week we’re back in the 70s for highs.”

There is even a slight chance of rain, Heil said.

Much the same happened a little over a week ago to close out March.

“Some springs we get these big ridges [of high pressure] followed by cold fronts even deep into April. It kind of appears it’s going to be the pattern we have this month, where we’ll have these hot spells but we’ll get breaks,” Heil said.

“I think most of us are pretty happy that we’re still getting some breaks from the heat.”

KTAR News 92.3 FM’s John Roller contributed to this report.
