An unsolved murder and a desperate mother. July 30, 2021, just after 3:30 a.m., north of the old Metrocenter Mall, 28-year-old Joseph McNally was walking along 28th Drive between Peoria Avenue and Cactus Road.
“He approached a vehicle and there was an altercation and he ended up getting shot,” Phoenix Police Sgt. Steve Reaume says.
“The vehicle took off. It was a blue or black SUV and it was occupied by several people.”
Reaume says Joseph had a lot of close family members, including brothers and sisters and his mother. They describe him as kind and loving and often the life of the party.
His mother is devastated.
“She’s hoping someone comes forward that might have been in the area or seen something or knows anything about who was involved in this,” Reaume says.

Next: A horrific, deadly hit-and-run along 43rd Avenue north of McDowell Road.
Reaume says Virginia Tarango, 44, was riding her bicycle Jan. 29, 2022, at about 8:30 p.m. when she was hit by a small dark sedan or SUV.
It didn’t stop.
“Some citizens attempted to block traffic and render aid to her and prevent additional injury to her or additional vehicles from striking her,” Reaume says.
“However, another vehicle went around the citizens that were trying to help her and struck her again. That vehicle also took off.”
It’s described as a white Chevrolet Tahoe or Cadillac Escalade.
