PHOENIX – For the second time in less than two weeks, thieves took gas from a van belonging to a Phoenix animal rescue organization, this time doing real damage.
HALO Animal Rescue in Phoenix said in a social media post Thursday vandals had drilled holes into a van they were going to use to pick up 35 dogs from Mexico.
The vandals also broke a sideview mirror.
HALO said the damage was estimated at $2,500.
Vandals also went after gas in the group’s vehicle about 10 days ago. They detached the fuel hose to get the fluid.
That was easy to fix, HALO said.
The latest criminal activity was much worse.
“We do have insurance but it’s a high deductible,” according to HALO.
Anyone who wants to help offset the costs can make a donation online.
Any money that surpasses what they need to recover repairs expenditure will go toward animal care at the facility near 32nd Street and Bell Road.
