PHOENIX — Police arrested a 30-year-old male outside of a hotel in Scottsdale at approximately 2 p.m. on Thursday for the alleged arson of an occupied home in El Mirage.
Jajuann Ernest Robert Jones was booked into the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Jail on charges of arson of an occupied structure, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault domestic violence and reckless endangerment domestic violence, authorities said.
El Mirage police responded to a home near 125th Avenue and Via Camille to investigate an aggravated assault domestic violence report on March 14. Officers learned Jones had a confrontation with his estranged wife, pointed a hand gun at the victim in the presence of children and left before police arrived, authorities said.
Officers returned to the home to investigate threatening phone calls Jones allegedly made to the victim on Monday. They searched the area but were unsuccessful in locating Jones, authorities said.
On Tuesday, police responded to the same location for a reported fire. The officers learned the exterior of the home, the front and garage doors were set on fire and a neighbor extinguished the flames with a garden hose.
There were no reported injuries and officers concluded Jones had set the fire.
The El Mirage Police Department and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Tactical Enforcement Unit searched for Jones and located him late on Wednesday before Thursday’s arrest.
