PHOENIX – Three migrants were shoved out of a truck and seriously injured, U.S. border agents in Tucson said, and the driver remains at-large.

The Tucson Sector Border Patrol said on Sunday agents at the Three Points Station near Sells tried to stop a black Dodge truck heading north on Interstate 19 for an immigration inspection.

A Customs and Border Protection spokesman said the driver, suspected of human smuggling, sped up, clocking over 80 mph around 4:30 p.m.

Eventually, the truck began to slow and “agents witnessed three people appear to be forced out of it,” the department said in a press release.

Agents pulled out of the pursuit to help the trio of Guatemalans, ages 16, 25 and 28.

They were taken to a hospital for treatment.

No other information about the three was made available.

The Tohono O’odham Police Department picked up the trail of the truck and found it abandoned near Ali Chuckson off State Route 86 in Pima County, about 60 miles west of Tucson.

Authorities said they found a loaded pistol, fentanyl pills and personal-use amounts of cocaine and marijuana.
