Maricopa police fatally shoot armed man making threats

PHOENIX — An armed man who was making threats in Maricopa was fatally shot by police Sunday morning, authorities said.

Officers responded to a report of a man, whose name hasn’t been released pending notification of next of kin, who had a gun and was making threats around 9:20 a.m., the city of Maricopa Police Department said in a Facebook post. 

When officers arrived, the man engaged with them and was shot by police.

Medical personnel and officers attempted life-saving measures.

He was taken to the hospital, where he later died, the police department said.

The investigation has been turned over to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
