PHOENIX — A major expansion project has started at Red Mountain Park that will include new sports fields and other improvements, the city said Thursday.
The 35-year-old park at 7745 E. Brown Road is getting 10 new regulation-size multiuse fields, including a soccer field and four youth baseball/softball fields, the city of Mesa said in a press release.
Among other improvements coming to the park are an expanded parking lot, two new restroom facilities and new landscaping.
The project is expected to be completed by the spring of 2024, the city said.
“The Red Mountain Park expansion is important to the community and a priority for Mesa residents, who have asked us for more soccer fields and ball diamonds,” Mesa councilmember David Luna said in the release. “This project will significantly meet that need.”
The project will cost $30 million to complete and is funded by a bond approved by Mesa voters in 2018, the city said.
