4-year-old boy in critical condition following shooting at Tanger Outlets in Glendale

PHOENIX — A 4-year-old boy was in critical condition Thursday, a day after he and three others were shot during an altercation at Tanger Outlets in Glendale, authorities said.
The boy, his 27-year-old mother and two teens — ages 17 and 15 — were hospitalized following the incident that occurred around 2:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Glendale Police spokeswoman Tiffany Ngalula said during a press conference.
The 17-year-old boy, who was shopping with the 4-year-old and his mother, got into an argument with the 15-year-old and a 16-year-old boy in the middle of the plaza.
Ngalula said the 17-year-old was the “primary aggressor” and shot the 15-year-old, who fired back, striking the shooter, the mother and the child.
Police initially reported Wednesday that five people were injured in the shooting.
The two groups of people knew each other, according to Ngalula.
The first officer responded to the scene two minutes after reports of the shooting and began to render aid to the child, Ngalula said.
All four people shot remained hospitalized as of Thursday afternoon.
At least one handgun and two different types of shell casings were recovered at the scene, according to Ngalula.
No arrests have been made and it’s unclear on what charges may be filed, Ngalula said.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
