PHOENIX – A fire that damaged a central Phoenix apartment early Tuesday apparently started when a candle got knocked over, authorities said.
Crews responded to a complex near 16th Street and Osborn Road around 2:15 a.m. to find a first-floor unit burning, the Phoenix Fire Department said in a press release.
Heavy smoke from the fire was spreading into neighboring apartments.
Firefighters performed a search to get all potential victims out, and the flames were quickly extinguished.
The incident displaced four residents, who received assistance from a crisis team.
Investigators were working to confirm if the candle caused the blaze.
No other details were immediately available.
